How can you stop having nightmares/flsahbacks?

First thing’s first, you are not going crazy. Flashbacks are normal and depending on what caused it, it’s going to be there for a while.

I can’t be very precise with what little you gave me but I am willing to help you understand it and find ways to stop it.

The brain takes a while to process trauma and stress. It’s normal if you have flashbacks and nightmares for some time.

Flashbacks: You get flashbacks when you see triggers. Finding these triggers will help you minimize them. Grounding is also an effective way of managing flashbacks. Some people carry around objects that remind them where they are if they feel like they may have a flashback.

Just remind yourself that you are safe, no matter how horrible it is.

After the flashback, try to talk to someone about it and try to gain an understanding of it.

Nightmares: Sometimes, writing the dream down can relieve some of the trauma/stress and can help you make sense of it.

Relaxation techniques like focusing on your breathing and yoga can help calm your nerves as well.

The most important this is to talk to someone about these. It helps you feel that the dreams have less power over you.

Elle
